The day started with reaching in front of 8 floor high coffee color BPCL office in Noida.
Stepped out of cab with hopes and aspiration.
Like me many were standing well formally dressed to compete on a common platform.We moved together in the office and were made to sit in a 100-150 capacity auditorium, with wooden floored dais and an old Hindi instrumental song played. It was pleasant atmosphere with all Instrumentation people around each other, some of them were about to face there 1st interview.
Then came presenter he was HR of BPCL, Sagar. He tried to cool down the tempo with hard to laugh on jokes and with some known realities.He started pondering some basic in and out of BPCL (in which I was least bothered about), and process of selection and remunerations which was increased from 10.5 to 11.5 lakh/annum. This rise in 1 lakh was catchy , no one has expected it, but BPCL was bound to do it looking at their competitors.
Selection process was made to go for 3 days in 4 parts.
Day 1 : Case based GD and Interview 1
Day 2 : Interview 2
Day 3 : Medical.
Sooner came the 1st list which, divided 45 called candidates into 4 groups. Mine was group 2 of 11 members. We entered a room having 5 panel members sitting and were given a paper and pencil. They gave us 7 mins to read out the case and write some points about it. Case was about honesty and was like : 2 friends in same company , one is doing wrong , what should other do ?
I jotted down as much points as I can(#I think they read it). Then GD started, everyone was given a fair chance to speak, if someone was interrupting other he/she was stopped by panel. It was no GD, just one by one chance to everyone to speak and a open forum for anyone to conclude, which was like a chocolate flown in sky, each of us trying to grab it. But just grabbing was not important, the content that you speak also mattered.
Case changed for 4th group i guess and remained same for first 3.
GD over for all 4 group now result time. Sagar came with list announcing the name. My name was among-st 20 going to round 2 interview ,yo 1st step ticked!!
They gave us 2 forms one was undertaking and other had some HR questions. I think that those questions were defining factor of interview. Questions were like : Why BPCL ? Why you chose Instrumentation ? What was your biggest failure, what you learned from it ? What are your strengths ? Your Area of Improvement? Your biggest achievements ? Your initiative that didn't went well ? 3 things that you subscribe of ? What your friends and batch mates think of you ? Where do you see yourself 5 year down the line ?
Prepare these questions well, sometimes you feel like you don't know much about yourself and even if you know, you have to present such that it suffice the employers requirement.
Interview started in sequence, with document verification for others waiting.
I was called in the same room with same panel members those were in GD and then it started.
Introduce yourself.
Why you left job what was it about , how much was package?
Why didn't you took govt college ?
How was faculty in your college? Were they experienced.
What is PID ? #Most general question for all
Where it can be used?
#One of the panel member stood and went out of the room.Whats happening here ??

#Everything was well up till this, then the grilling started(I made it so, due to lack of focus). Their expression was as if I am answering everything wrong and speaking what not.

# And someone was constantly coming in and out of the room, was catching my attention,I was getting disturbed.

It went for 15-20 min , I came out stone-hearted feeling disgusted what blunder I have done.Went outside to relax a bit, but was feeling regretted.
Waited so long for results and as I was expecting, my name was not among-st 12 selected for Day 2 Interview. That called off the day, bid goodbye to BPCL.
Day 2 interview was purely HR based and was to see will you really join BPCL or not.
7 were selected from 12 for all category on day 2.
Day 3 Medical Fitness test.
PS: 2 times breakfast and lavish Lunch is provided for all :P
Although I tried to impress with my answers but presented honest answers and I think it hitted me back with bang. Learned that sometimes you don't have to be that much honest, you should know how to cover your weaknesses. I think that form was crucial, and decided the face of my interview. If they are grilling you try to turn the table around and be positive and confident. Don't let nervousness and anxiety come over you.Focus is important, distraction should be ignored.
Be Good, everything happens for a Good reason,take out positives and give yourself negative feedback, then only your system will be stable.
If one train goes other is coming,its just you should have your bag packed.
